Shelf-Life Evaluation and Extension

SITUATION

The food manufacturer had issues with spoilage of its bakery snacks before the expiry date. The client needed an expiry date of 1 year on the product while the product’s shelf life was less than 6 months.

PROBLEM

Lack of shelf-life data on the product and not having an optimized formulation + processing method was what could lead to the product’s early expiry.

SOLUTION

Our team conducted an accelerated shelf-life estimation in our lab. In addition, through analysis of the shelf-life data, current formulation and processing, a turnkey solution was provided through improvement of formulation, process, and packaging in order to reach an extended shelf-life. Finally, a shelf-life validation test was also done in order to test the concept and results were satisfactory meeting the 1-year shelf-life.

Longer shelf-life is a key to success in expanding sales into different markets, especially when it comes to exporting the product. The client was satisfied with the project and reached the desired expiry. Since then, the sales have increased since the product is now being sold in various areas and market locations.
