Positive food safety programs create the safests products- Plant food safety culture.

SITUATION

There was a terrible food safety culture in this particular company. It made everyone not care to do the proper steps and take short cuts. It was not a good situation for those who wanted to do the right thing, and not good for the new employees.

PROBLEM

There were too many corners being cut and you could tell in the company’s amount of holds they had.

SOLUTION

I created a positive food safety program. How this worked is I took pictures of people who have passed away from food borne illnesses and posted them in the hallway. This reminded people who they are working for and why it is important to be safe with the foods that are created in the plant. I always talked about food safety and taught everyone the WHY and not just the rules. Capturing people’s integrity and dignity with their heart is how I changed this culture. It created the safety that was needed to this company to have good products.

They passed their audit for the first time in years and have continued.
